Half Day Fermentation Intensive

1.30pm to 5.30pm at the e5 Bakehouse, East London. 395 Mentmore Terrace, London E8 3PH, UK.

Let’s get a grasp on your gateway ferments before we move on to the hard stuff. We’ll tackle kimchi, sauerkraut and small beers, then we’ll taste and discuss natto, koji and miso.

There will be practical DIY info, with time for workshopping and troubleshooting for the more seasoned enthusiast.

The class will be led by Mara King, the co-founder of Boulder, Colorado based fermented foods brand Ozuke and co-host of Fermentation Revivalist Sandor Katz’s YouTube series People’s Republic of Fermentation. Mara brings 20 years of professional cooking experience to the table.

Let’s geek out on good, weird, funky foods.

We’ll wrap up class with a rice and pickles snack.

E5 Bakehouse is an artisan bakery, shop and cafe based in Hackney, east London. We are passionate about sourdough and the lost traditions of our baking ancestors. e5 has recently expanded to include a farm in Suffolk and a stoneground flour mill, where we mill fresh stoneground grains each day to ensure our sourdough is as nutritious and flavoursome as possible. We roast our own small batch coffee and use organic, locally sourced ingredients for our daily breakfast, brunch, and lunch, pastries and cakes. We run weekly classes on sourdough bread making, and evening classes in sourdough pizza making, a range of cookery classes, and a class on jam, butter and pickles.
