Charge your glasses and settle down for a leisurely drink as Tom Hodgkinson chats to the author of Fermentation Journeys, Sandor Katz.Sandor Katz’s new book is the long awaited follow up to the award winning The Art of Fermentation: it tracks the recipes, processes, cultural traditions and stories from around the globe that have inspired Sandor’s life’s work.
Described as the ‘high priest of fermentation’ by the Guardian, Sandor has travelled the world for the past twenty years, learning and sharing his knowledge of fermentation, and discovering fascinating techniques for creating fermented foods. His new book contains over 60 recipes and reminds us that the magical power of fermentation belongs to everyone, everywhere.

About the speakers:
Sandor Katz is a self-taught experimentalist who lives in rural Tennessee. He is the author of two best-selling books: Wild Fermentation and The Art of Fermentation. Through hundreds of fermentation workshops he has taught around the world, he has helped catalyze a broad revival of the fermentation arts. Sandor and his work have appeared on the BBC’s “The Food Programme”, The New Yorker, The New York Times, The Guardian, The Telegraph, The Washington Post, The Financial Times, and numerous other national and international media.
Tom Hodgkinson is editor of the Idler and author of the best-selling manuals, How to be Idle and How to be Free. Other books include a book on smallholding called Brave Old World, a book on parenting, the Ukulele Handbook and, most recently, a manual for creative entrepreneurs, Business for Bohemians.
Dr Mark Vernon is a psychotherapist, writer, broadcaster and teacher. He presents several Idler Academy online courses. He has a PhD in philosophy, and degrees in theology and physics. His most recent books include – The Idler Guide To Ancient Philosophy (Idler Books), Love: All That Matters (Hodder) and Jung: How To Believe (Guardian Shorts) – and he has books on friendship, belief and the good life too.
