i brew both water-kefir and kombucha. for a couple of weeks everything was going good, i made a couple gallons of each and bottled the brew. after that i put the cultures in smaller jars so i could stick them in the fridge for later use....

i forgot to put them in the fridge and a week later, the kombucha scoby was huge and there was a baby, so that was all good and in order.

but the kefir, the grains like tripled in size so thats fine but i noticed on top was a friggn kombucha mushroom!

is this something that just happens with kefir or did i make some kefir/kombucha hybrid?

I read somewhere that you should keep ferments separate, by at least several feet, to prevent cross contamination.
